Here is a great article from Katherine Stott, of JobFluent.com, which we like a lot. It has a lot of commonsense advice and good information about the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, 2013. Definitely worth a read.
If you are looking for accommodation and are having no luck then see the search box above, or if you need executive transport during the event, see the last paragraph.
There is plenty to be said about the Mobile World Congress 2013 and there are a host of sites that will give you all the standard details, such as dates, times, what and who to expect etc. Briefly, for those of you who don’t know, it’s a tech event that happens annually in Barcelona. It pretty much takes over the city and caters to all within the mobile market – from the big companies such as Samsung, to the small startups that we’ve yet to hear of.
A number of big guns from the mobile industry will be sharing their knowledge with event goers, so it’s something that can’t be missed. Find out more about the who’s who on the schedule right here.
A Mobile Event Must Have A Mobile App
It wouldn’t be fitting if the event didn’t have its own app, so thankfully it’s got a great one that works on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and other platforms. All you need to do is register and you can get access to a range of interesting tools, including a scheduling assistant that will help you keep track of all your chosen speakers and exhibitors. Nifty, right? A definite “must-have” for all attendees. Register here.Use this Opportunity to Learn
Delegates can take full advantage of the brains they’ll be in contact with at the event by taking one of the training courses on offer. The only catch is that you have to register and pay for both the event and the training program, so it’s a bit pricey for those attending on a budget. It might be worth your while if you want to attend any of these:• Mobile Today And Tomorrow – presented by the Andrew Seybold Wireless University (ASWU)
• Making An Impact With VoLTE – presented by Award Solutions
• Keys To Successful LTE Networks – also presented by Award Solutions
• mPowered Brands Mobile Ambassadors – presented by Shelly Palmer Digital Leadership
Fira Gran Via – New Venue for 2013
If you haven’t been before, then this won’t make any different to you, but the Mobile World Congress is being held in a new venue this year – the Fira Gran Via. That would be here:Av. Joan Carles I, 64
08908 L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona
(view map)
The new venue is double the size of the one used in previous years, it’s centrally located and it makes use of 18,000 solar panels – a plus for all you green beings, of which we hope there are many! It’s also close to bus routes and is more accommodating for those with disabilities. Check out this cool infographic that highlights a comparison between the two venues.
Insider tip: Before you go, have a look at this awesome virtual fly-through that allows you to familiarize yourself with the venue before you get there. You don’t want to waste a moment getting lost!
Where To Stay?
The event has partnered with Barcelona Business Pass that is handling accommodation deals at a reduced rate. You can have a look at the rooms on offer here – it’s pretty comprehensive and gives you a detailed breakdown of prices and rooms available. Book today to avoid disappointment!Insider tip: avoid dealing with any other booking agents who claim to be offering special rates for the event. A number of delegates have already been duped by fraudulent activity where they’ve paid deposits only to find out they have not secured a room. Rather deal with the above-mentioned company directly.
Getting To and From the Event
Like we said, the whole city is going to be buzzing with event madness during the MWC, so you won’t be short of transportation opportunities. There are major bus routes around the venue and taxis and hotel shuttles will be doing their rounds regularly throughout each day. Here’s a guide to the drop off points and bus routes.Insider tip: get approximate travel costs from your hotel concierge or people in the know so that you can budget enough for your travel every day.
